Secondary Character: Sandor Clegane
Epithet: The Hound
Sandor Clegane is often referred to as “The Hound”, partly because of the fact that he belongs to House Clegane, whose sigil is three black dogs on a field of yellow, but more likely it is due to his distinctive helm, forged and shaped into the form of a snarling dog’s head. There are extensive burn marks on the left side of his face; that plus his towering height and martial prowess, often gives him a menacing demeanor. He is often contemptuous of knights and the whole idea of knighthood; his animosity towards his brother, Gregor, a knight who appears to have no qualms about murdering and killing innocent people, appears to be the reason behind his contempt. Sandor fought in the Battle of the Blackwater but deserted Joffrey's cause when ordered to return to the fiery battlefield; he has since left King's Landing.
