Secondary Character: Viserys
Epithets: Beggar King
Viserys styles himself as the Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, but men in the Free Cities call him the Beggar King, due to his constant requests for military aid to help him secure the Iron Throne. When his brother, Rhaegar Targaryen, was slain by Robert Baratheon on the Trident, Viserys became heir to the Targaryen dynasty He and his sister, Daenerys, are the last remaining Targaryens. Viserys never refers to Robert Baratheon by name; he only refers to Robert as ‘The Usurper’. He plans to one day lead a huge army back to the Seven Kingdoms, to claim what he deems as rightfully his – the Iron Throne. Just how he plans to achieve this remains a mystery to his sister, since Viserys has no fortune, nor ever handled a sword in battle. He treats Daenerys, well enough, but can show a cruel streak when he loses his temper (which is often); he often refers to his outbursts as ‘waking the dragon’, and uses them as a threat to get Daenerys to do his bidding.
