Secondary Character: Tywin Lannister
Titles: Lord of Casterly Rock, Warden of the West, Hand of the King
Many think of Tywin Lannister as a hard and ruthless man. But he is no harder or any more ruthless than he has had to be. His father was a good man, but a weak one, as well. Having been forced to watch as House Lannister's reputation sunk lower and lower during his father's time, Tywin went on to fulfill his responsibilities as the rightful heir to Casterly Rock with ruthless efficiency and is said to have single-handedly restored the House to its former glory. There is no more telling proof than "The Rains of Castamere", a dark but popular song written about Tywin's crushing victory over the rebellious House Reyne and House Tarbeck and the complete and utter destruction of both Houses at Tywin's hand. It is a song that serves as a reminder of the fate that awaits those who cross the Lannisters of Casterly Rock.
