Secondary Character: Asha Greyjoy
Life on the Iron Islands is hard - and it's no surprise that such an environment creates a hard and tough people. The "ironmen", as they are known to the rest of the Seven Kingdoms, are born readers, with raids along the shore and into the richer "green lands" of Westeros' mainland figuring very prominently in their history and traditions. Much like the rest of the mainland, the ironmen have rigid gender roles, but they respect strength, skill, courage and cunning above all else - and Asha Greyjoy has all of that... and more. She may have been born the "wrong" sex, but that hasn't stopped Asha from repaving and raiding like the best of the ironmen - and most of them (but not all) respect her for that. With her younger and sole remaining brother, Theon, being sent off to Winterfell as Lord Eddard Stark's ward after the failed Greyjoy Rebellion ten years ago, Asha has grown up following her father's footsteps to power; many see her as Balon Greyjoy's true heir. Now that her brother Theon has returned to the Iron Islands, Asha is curious to see just how much his ten years in the soft "green lands" have changed him.
