Back to Main PageChapter 71 - Catelyn
Catelyn is in Riverrun. She pays a visit to the ruler of Riverrun, her father, Lord Hoster Tully. Her father is happy to see her but sad that Lysa is not with her. After praying in the godswood to mourn of the death of his father, Robb Stark convenes a war council, with all the great lords of the North and the Riverlands in attendance. They discuss their next plan of action. No one can agree to one plan. Robb does not want to support Renly, because by right, Stannis has the true claim. The Greatjon then states that Robb Stark is the only King he’d follow. The great lords all agree and fall to their knees, swearing fealty to Robb Stark and proclaiming him as King of the North.
Chapter 72 – Daenerys
Daenerys prepares a pyre for Drogo. A horse is killed and placed on top of the pyre. Her three dragon eggs have been laid around Drogo’s body. Jorah pleads with Daenerys not to sacrifice herself but she gently tells him that is not her intent. She then calls for Mirri Maz Duur to be placed on the pyre, as well. A red comet flashes over the sky. Daenerys then sets the pyre on fire. The fire starts to grow into a fierce inferno and Mirri Maz Duur screams as she is burned alive. Daenerys walks into the inferno.
Later, once the fire has turned everything to ashes, Daenerys reappears; her hair and clothes have burnt away, but she is otherwise very much alive. And there is something else. She has 3 baby dragons on her body, two suckling her breasts and the other wrapped itself around her shoulder. Seeing the wondrous sight before them, Ser Jorah and the few remaining Dothraki immediately fall to their knees, swearing fealty to Daenerys. Back to Chapter Summaries |
